GM sinks to fresh low as Chapter 11 looms

“I realise that we all have to make sacrifices, but bondholders have been singled out to lose the most,” Chris Crowe, an electrician from Denver, said at a rally in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

One bondholder held a sign reading: “We are individuals, not institutions,” to distinguish the group from hedge funds that have been criticised by lawmakers for precipitating Chrysler’s bankruptcy.

Vivian Floyd was a conservative investor. That’s why she bought $100,000 worth of bonds from General Motors six years ago.

Now, at 80, she stands to lose nearly all of it if GM declares bankruptcy – something she never imagined was possible.

Her son, Jim Graves, and others in her predicament will gather in Tampa this morning to protest having been left out of the negotiations concerning GM’s future.
